SATURDAY COUNTRY - 8-25-18
by Tom Lineaweaver
I have a story to tell you. This week, I was wondering what people see in this so called, "New Country." So, I put a feature together called, "New Country - Really!" You can see that here... popmood.freeforums.net/thread/34/new-country Then I thought waht would if I mix in some Southern Rock. So, I put a feature together I called, "Pop Goes Southern," later renamed "Rocky Road." You can see that here... popmood.freeforums.net/thread/33/rocky-road Finally, I put a feature together called, "More Rocky Road," where I added some just plain Rock. You can see it here... popmood.freeforums.net/thread/37/more-rocky-road If this doesn't prove that today's "New Country" is nothing but some form of Rock, nothing will. It is not Country, and Hank Williams would not never fit in. But Hank does fit here, so let's get started with Saturday Country....
Here's Hank Williams
Here's Patty Loveless
Wow! Now that's Country, and after this week, I'm in a real Country frame of mind today. Let's keep going with Vince Gill
Let's speed things up a little with Loretta Lynn
Here's Conway
Here's Kitty Wells
Every Saturday afternoon I watched the Porter Wagoner show. Here's Porter
Of course, often a guest on the Porter Wagoner Show was Dolly Parton.
Also on Saturday afternoon, there was a show called, The Old Barn Dance which is where I first saw Hawkshaw Hawkins
June Carter also appeared on the Old Barn Dance, and she often bit her lip.
Here's Lefty Frizzell
Here's Barbara Mandrell
Here's the great Charley Pride
Here's Connie Smith
Here's Buck Owens
Here's Susan Raye
Here's Don King
Here's Emmylou Harris
Here's Merle Haggard
We end this week with Sweethearts of the Rodeo
